Reuters: Poor metabolizers are people whose bodies do not effectively convert Plavix to its active form. "Because the patient makes less of the active form there is less anti-platelet effect in the blood and the patient may not receive the full benefit of Plavix treatment," Mary Ross Southworth of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research told reporters in a teleconference.

KFOX TV: But there's one machine Pena can't get back up to normal. The man who fixes dialysis machines, is now attached to one three times a week. "It?s different when you're actually going through it,? he said. After nearly 20 years of working on the machines, Juan has been undergoing dialysis himself for about a year. He said the treatments have a big impact on his energy level. "I was thinking I?ll dialyze in the morning and get off at 8:00 and then go to work, and I had another thing coming,? he said.

Endocrine Today: Metformin failed at a rate of 12.2% per year for patients who started the drug within three months after diabetes diagnosis compared with a failure rate of 21.3% for patients who started the drug within one to two years after diagnosis and 21.9% for those who started the drug three years after diagnosis.

"We have shown that it is variations in people's blood pressure rather than the average level that predicts stroke most powerfully. ?Occasional high values, and what might be called episodic hypertension, carry a high risk of stroke.?

MU News: While there are many benefits of losing weight, weight reduction also might negatively affect bones in the body. During weight loss, bones are being remodeled ? breaking down old bone and forming new bone ? at an accelerated rate. As a result, bone density is reduced, causing increased fragility. In a new study, University of Missouri researchers found that weight-bearing exercise, in this case, fast walking or jogging, did not prevent the increased bone turnover caused by weight loss.
